  • 8u, 10u & 12u players must use a USABat bat and must  must carry the USA Baseball mark  or a solid wood bat. All other types are illegal. Bats marked for Tee-ball are also illegal.
  • Junior high players may use a BBCOR bat which must carry the BBCOR mark or a USABat that  carries the USA Baseball mark and is no lighter that drop 5 (-5). Solid wood bats may be used.

The drop refers to the amount the bat weighs compared to the length of the bat.  If a bat is 30 inches long and has a drop of -3 then the bat weighs 27 ounces.  


Pitch Smart is a joint initiative between MLB and USA Baseball that provides a series of practical, age-appropriate guidelines to help parents, players, and coaches avoid overuse injuries and foster long, healthy careers for amateur players. The Pitch Smart guidelines include age-specific pitching limits and required rest recommendations to limit the likelihood of injuries caused by pitching with fatigue.  Learn more here.


No. The Boys of Summer is an independent, regional league in north central Indiana. Most teams in the league come from Elkhart, Fulton, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Marshall, and St. Joseph counties.


  • 8u - For the 2023 the 8u season will be from April 29 to May 20.
  • 10u & 12u - The season begins the Saturday after Easter and finishes with a league tournament the weekend before the 4th of July.
  • Junior high - Is approximately 6-weeks long with about 16 games. The season begins on the first weekday of May and ends with a league tournament in mid-June.


  • 8u games are played on Saturdays.
  • 10u & 12u games are scheduled for Wednesdays and Saturdays.
  • Junior high games are scheduled throughout the week and on Saturdays. A single team usually plays two games during the week and once on Saturday.


During the week travel times should be less than an hour. On a Saturday the travel time may be one and a half hours.


Teams that are sanctioned by the league adhere to the following regulations.

  • 8u - Players who turn 9 prior to May 1 of the current season are not eligible. Players who are 8 or under are eligible for this division regardless of their grade. 
  • 10u - Players who turn 11 prior to May 1 of the current season are not eligible. Players who are 9 or under are eligible for this division regardless of their grade. 
  • 12u - Players who turn 13 prior to May 1 of the current season are not eligible. Players who are 12 or under are eligible for this division regardless of their grade. 
  • Junior High (14u) -  Players who turn 15 prior to May 1 of the current season are not eligible unless they are in the 8th grade. Players who are in the 6th, 7th, or 8th grade are eligible for this division regardless of age except any player turning 16 prior to August 1. 


No. Players must join a participating team. The Boys of Summer sanctions established teams that represent their local communities or school districts. Local leagues, communities, or schools can register their teams. Check with your local baseball league for opportunities.
